We understand that the wait for blood results can be immensly stressful for pet owners. At My Family Vet Clinic & Surgery, we offer a series of comprehensive in-house laboratory testings. This is because we understand that having instant results will mean faster diagnosis and treatment for your pets. Our list of in-house tests are as follows:
1. COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT In-house haematology with reference laboratory-quality results. 2. GENERAL AND COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH PROFILE For pre-anaesthesia assessment and annual health check & early diagnosis of disease. 3. HEARTWORM TESTING 4. CANINE TICK-BORNE DISEASES (DOG TICK FEVER) Including Babesia Gibsoni, Ehrlichia Canis, Ehrlichia Ewingii, Lyme and Anaplasmosis. 5. SCREEN FOR THYROID DISEASE e.g. Hyperthyroid and Hypothyroid 6. EVALUATION OF ADRENAL FUNCTION To screen for endocrine disease such as Cushing Disease and Addison’s. Also, monitor long-term medication for quick adjustments. 7. BILE ACID TESTS To assess the liver function. 8. FELINE DISEASES Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) 9. PANCREATITIS 10. SNAP 4Dx TEST Rapid test kits for canine diseases such as Leptospirosis, Parvovirus and distemper. 11. IMMUNOCOMB VACCICHECK ANTIBODY TEST KIT VacciCheck determines the antibody titer levels in dogs and cats for 3 viruses each. Dogs: Infectious Canine Hepatitis (ICH), Parvovirus (CPV) and Distemper (CDV); Cats: Panleukopenia (FPLV), Herpes Virus (FHV) and Calici Virus (FCV). Test kit is OPTIONAL and available upon request from pet owners. This is not a mandatory test because the annual vaccinations used in Singapore is a COMBO vaccine, which also immunises other diseases such as Adenovirus and Leptospirosis (an outbreak occurred in Singapore July 2016). This means that even if your pet fares a high titer level on the test, it does not mean it is protected against all other viruses, because this kit only tests for the presence of antibodies from the listed viruses. 12. FELINE TOXOPLASMA GONDII COMBO TEST KIT The single-celled parasite Toxoplasma Gondii causes a disease called Toxoplasmosis in cats. The parasite can be detected in faeces of an infected cat. Upon contact, this disease can infect humans. Affected individuals may experience weak immune systems and damages to the eyes when severe. Toxoplasmosis can be transmitted via ingestion, coming in contact with an infected cat’s faeces or mother-to-child in-utero. If you are planning to get pregnant and are worried, please do not hesitate to request for the test for your cat! 13. FELINE CORONAVIRUS ANTIGEN TEST KIT This test kit tests for the presence of the Feline Coronavirus in cats. Initial infection of the virus is hardly detectable by owners as cats do not really show signs. However, as the virus progresses and affects the immune system, it can progress to a condition called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). FIP is a progressive condition and can be fatal as it causes inflamed cells to spread in the body, usually in the abdomen, kidney and brain. In the past, the virus was tough to diagnose as samples had to be sent overseas for testing. With this test kit, the virus can be detected within a few short minutes!
